The Kisua fashion brand, in partnership with Albertina Sisulu’s family, launched a clothing collection in Sandton to raise money for the Albertina Sisulu Fund for Nurses.
The clothing collection celebrates Sisulu’s centenary and her contributions to South Africa while raising funds for a cause she was passionate about. The collection features a range of T-shirts with her likeness and the words ‘Victory is Ours’, which Sisulu displayed on a poster during a protest.
Sam Mensah, the founder of Kisua, said, “Through fashion one is able to say who they are and what they stand for without having to speak and this collection aims to do just that, carry a profound message that Mama Sisulu expressed on placards as she marched against the apartheid regime in order for us to enjoy the victory we do today.”
Ntsiki Sisulu-Singapi, one of Sisulu’s grandchildren said at the launch that the majority of nurses are over the age of 50 without enough young people joining the profession. She added that her grandmother had been provided with the opportunity to become a nurse thanks to a bursary and they hope to provide other young women with the same opportunity.

All the funds raised from the sale of the T-shirts will be going toward the nurse’s fund to advance the skills development in the sector. Through this project, the Sisulu family also hopes to encourage more young people to enter the nursing profession.
Gill Bates, the CEO of the Charities Aid Foundation South Africa, who will manage the fund said that their assistance will help ensure that all funds raised are given to all the intended recipients. “In our opinion, a well-managed full bursary fund programme is a game changer. Bursaries are a transformative tool which improves society as a whole.”
