Having just scooped up a Best of Joburg award for the best ‘Cocktails with a View’ – the roof top pool bar and deck at The Southern Sun Hotel in Hyde Park is certainly one of our favourite venues too.

Whether its sundowners after work, a breakfast complete with bubbly or a lazy afternoon lunch – this is THE spot to be, and be seen.
The well know and popular Southern Sun Hyde Park had revamped its Island Bar menu just in time for lazy pool days on their beautiful deck – the newly launched tapas selection pairs perfectly with sundowners to enjoy as a snack while taking in the view and includes a vast array of vegetarian, meat and fish dishes – and including a fresh take on your old favourites such as crumbed mushrooms and garlic pesto aioli, cheese & corn poppers (amazing!) and Sriracha chicken wings to name a few.
Executive Chef for the hotel, Grant van der Riet, says that the new menu focuses on fresh, original and delicious flavors, and more than a touch of Italian finesse. “Island Bar now offers something for every appetite with options for any time of the day or night, from tapas plates for sharing and tasting, to sushi, hunger-busting burgers, light meals and desserts.”
They also offer burgers (including a banting option) and salads as well as some epically awesome show stopper dessert delights – may we recommend the Chocalatissimo chocolate soufflé with a melted chocolate center, vanilla ice cream, shortbread crumble, and fresh berries. T
