Documentary on the war on rhinos premiers in Hyde Park

Enthusiastic animal lovers gathered at Hyde Park Corner to view a special showing of Stroop: Journey into the rhino horn war.

Moviemakers Bonne de Bod and Susan Scott have been hiring out movie houses across the country in order to screen the documentary which has been raved about in Europe. The documentary has been screened in full movie houses all over the country.

The film Stroop has been shown at 15 international film festivals in the United States and Europe, winning 10 awards. The duo took four years to complete the film as they delved deeper and deeper into depths of the rhino war. The journey highlights the plight of the beleaguered rhinos themselves (at least three a day are being slaughtered,) to the brazen poachers.

This gripping film, that has left audiences riveted, takes the viewer through the court and justice system to the front line and the brave people who risk their lives protecting our rhinos every day. The film also takes a look at where the wounded rhinos and orphaned babies are cared for. The viewer is also taken through an undercover operation in Vietnam to see where rhino horns end up and who is buying them. The documentary shows a story of incredible suffering and great humanity as well as the individuals who continue, against great odds and with immense courage and conviction, to fight to save wildlife from extinction.

Speaking to the audience after the show, Scott and De Bod said, “We are determined to focus locally. It’s our wildlife that attracts people from all over the world, so we have to win this war. We need to focus on our youth and change the mindset. We need to put pressure on ministers and politicians in order to stop this illegal trade not only with rhinos but also elephants and lions.”
