JOBURG – Local is lekker … and so are a shiver-making tale of horror along with a couple of dramatic stories
- Based on true events and set in Sophiatown in 1958, Back of the Moon is the story of a beautiful singer, Eve Msomi, and gang leader, Badman. On the night of her final performance in South Africa before she hits the international stage in London, the forced removals of Gerty Street in Sophiatown also occur. Unable to accept the reality of being a black man in South Africa, Badman is determined to fight for his home. On meeting his crush, Eve, on that fateful night and having a beautiful encounter after loving her from afar, Badman’s gang senses vulnerability and turns on him unleashing a backlash of drama, lies, deceit and loss. The film stars Richard Lukunku, Moneoa Moshesh and Lemogang Tsipa. In cinemas September 6.
- Based on the socio-political situation of India, Article 15 follows the lives of police officers. In a country where discrimination is everywhere, whether related to race or caste, the officers embark on a journey of acceptance and change. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, the film is based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex and place of birth. September 6. - If you’re looking for a gripping drama with all the bells and whistles, After the Wedding is a must-see. Isabel, an orphanage manager in Kolkata is seeking funding. She travels to New York City to meet a potential benefactor, Theresa, who then takes her into her home and invites her to her daughter’s wedding. On meeting Theresa’s husband, Oscar, it becomes clear the two are not strangers. Old wounds open and a complicated history is revealed.
