Loki getting his ‘section’ in the hip-hop world
SANDTON – Introducing hip-hop local star Loki and his new single – Section.
Ndlelenhle Nyuswa, better known as Loki, is the hottest thing to hit the hip-hop world.
Introduced as ‘Skhandaworld’s firstborn’, Loki’s official single Section was released on 20 March. Featuring K.O, the track’s funky melody will have you grooving the whole night. Loki said, “It’s me and the big bro K.O. It’s a song basically about representing where you are from. It sort of has a double entendre because the word section is not only about where you’re from. So if you are talking about it in a slang term, the section could be where you sitting, if you hitting the club or wherever.”
He joined the Skhandaworld family earlier this year with a sneak peek of his talents on the first Skhandaworld collaboration Killa Combo. “Working with K.O. has been great and surreal. K.O this is a person I kind of moulded my career around. When I first started doing vernacular I tried to sound like him.
“So it’s just one of those moments that is unreal and all it took was patience and hard work. I still haven’t digested it all.
Set to light up the hip-hop world, Loki is just focused on making more music. He describes his journey as different, one where he must get his direction right.
The Sandton resident shared how he became a part of it all. “Last year K.O had put out a tweet where he said artists should send him links and he will critique the song. I didn’t know about it then a friend of mine posted a link of one of my songs. I was actually at home affairs and my phone kept blowing up. I didn’t know what was going on and I was irritated, there was a queue and I was just trying to get my ID from home affairs you know!”
Eventually, he checked his phone and realised what was going on. “K.O said he actually listened to the song twice, a few weeks later he messaged me, it was actually Tsholofelo – his manager, friend and business partner – and my first reaction was that this was a catfish. But it actually was them.”
After a brief meeting over some lunch, Loki was put to work straight away. “That same night they sent me the beats for Killa Combo. I went back to Durban and recorded the verse, sent it and it was the one. From there on we’ve just been working.”
His name was inspired by the Marvel character Loki, “I like his personality. I feel like him and I have the same personality. He is a shape shifter, god of mischief and the type of person who will switch it up. I’ve always loved reading comics,” he said.
And when he is not making killer combinations in the studio, he’ll be at home playing video games.
