Marlboro soccer festival a success
MARLBORO - The Beautiful Game was at its ravishing best as Marlboro Gardens Football Club hosted its annual soccer festival.

Held at the Marlboro Gardens Stadium, this was the biggest edition in the 10-year history of the festival as 110 teams divided among the U6,U7, U8,U9 and U10 teams from afar as Springs, Laudium and Azaadville took part. The sides comprised 1 100 aspiring future footballers who took part in 590 matches throughout the day in a non-competitive format where winning was not the ultimate goal, but each player received a medal for their effort.
“The children who took part derived the full benefit of playing against teams they’d never met before,” said Lee Ebrahim, chairman of the Marlboro Gardens Football Club.
“The objective of the festival is to promote soccer, create a space for our children to show their skills, have fun and to bring communities together.”
There was a large spectator turnout at the event which led to parking issues in and around the stadium, and the management committee of Marlboro Gardens Football club thanked members of the community for their patience and assistance in alleviating the traffic congestion.
“Marlboro Gardens Football Club wants to take this opportunity to thank all the soccer players, their parents and soccer clubs for making the Marlboro Soccer Festival a huge success. Lastly, an event of this magnitude cannot be complete without the assistance of our sponsors and the sterling effort of the management team and their families,” added Ebrahim.
