Cake sale for vulnerable children

MORNINGSIDE - International Mandela celebrations continued at the Morningside shopping centre when it hosted the Baby House's annual cake sale.

The Baby House is a place of safety and rehabilitation for vulnerable and abandoned children. It is a refuge for children of abuse, rape and abandonment, while ensuring their court cases are processed by social workers. It helps these youngsters through their trauma and prepares them for fostering and adoption.

In keeping with the spirit of Mandela Day, the cake sale was held in order to selflessly help others less fortunate.

The Baby House team hopes that the haven will one day grow from one house to a village of caring homes – all offering a family environment to meet the needs of each child.

Morningside shopping centre manager, Nelia Teixeira-Scott, thanked customers who contributed to Baby House’s cause.

“Mandela Day is all about taking action to change the world for the better. It’s a community initiative and a sweet way to make a big difference. It is also a wonderful way to make the world a better place on Mandela Day. Every minute you give and every bit of support makes a difference,” added Teixeira-Scott.
