Redhill holds iPad Day

MORNINGSIDE - The grade 7 pupils from Redhill Preparatory School and Dainfern College have been involved in a collaborative iPad task, focused on pushing the boundaries of how the iPad is conventionally used.

The pupils from the two schools were recently placed in mixed groups and asked to complete various tasks involving iPad usage, in an initiative hosted by the Edmodo educational programme.

All resource materials and instructions for the pupils was loaded onto the Edmodo site that was created.

One of these tasks focused on a discussion/debate activity on renewable/non-renewable energy sources. Pupils used various programmes to host this debate between the two schools. This debate took place over a distance of 15km.

On 29 July, Dainfern College came to Redhill Preparatory School to participate in the final activity. This gave the pupils an opportunity to meet each other for the first time.

“The iPad has certainly challenged teachers to re-examine the way they teach. It has opened their eyes to new approaches in teaching, not conceivable without technology,” said Nirvana Rogers, spokesperson for the school.
