Biker dies in Rivonia accident

RIVONIA - A biker died in an accident with a car on 25 August.

Caxton Johannesburg North group editor Kennedy Mudzuli, who witnessed the aftermath of the accident, said the biker collided with a black Mercedes Benz at the intersection of Rivonia and Winter Roads just afer 11am.

A few lanes on Rivonia Road had been closed due to the repainting of road markings, but officials at the scene could not confirm if the accident could be attributed to the confusion caused by this.

The impact sent the biker flying for about 20m away from the intersection. He landed on the side of the road with his helmet by his side. He died instantly. His body was covered by a silver plastic, and there was blood flowing on the pavement.

Several people, including the road marking workers and security guards from nearby office blocks as well as worshippers from Grace Bible Church, immediately gathered around at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes was sitting behind the steering wheel of his, seemingly confused by what had just happened. Another man was kneeling near the biker, clearly devastated and in tears.

Traffic flow was badly affected by the accident.
