Bradley said he found human excrement, used condoms and litter. “I went to take the dogs for a walk and I was disgusted to see the amount of human faeces,” said Bradley.
“There must have been a party along the banks of the river because I found glass bottles of alcohol, food packets, and remnants of a coal fire. There is simply no regard for the law.”
Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp said he was well aware of Bradley’s concerns.
“Residents of the area have said that they want the area enclosed,” he said. “All they want is to secure the park. Residents want it free from vagrants and vandals.”
Earp said City Parks had tried to keep the area clean and presentable by trimming trees and picking up the litter. “But residents feel it is not enough,” added Earp.
Bradley asked, “Why are the park officials not clamping down on the situation at the park? The dead ends we are facing leave me frustrated. I have had no response to my complaints about what will be done about the activities at the park. The drinking and partying under the trees simply continue.”
Aleisha Tissen, acting spokesperson for Johannesburg City Parks said, “The complaint has been forwarded to the relevant regional manager and we will be attending to the matter soon.”
