Bra Hugh takes stage for Legacy Live
Legendary jazz musician Hugh Masekela and American jazz pianist Larry Willis performed at the second Legacy Live at Room Five in Rivonia.
Legacy Live is an intimate music encounter sponsored by Glenlivet, where like-minded individuals come together and enjoy an interactive and personal music experience with an artist. Having celebrated the musical journeys of South African music greats such as Judith Sephuma and Selaelo Selota in the past to acclaimed success, the next instalment of Legacy Live allowed guests to be serenaded by Masekela, Africa’s ‘father of jazz’.
Masekela shared the stage with lifelong friend and equally celebrated musician Willis, and shared anecdotes of his experiences with music greats such as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Paul Simon and Billie Holiday.
“A legend is described as having single-minded determination and an irrepressible spirit. Both artists have been nominated for and won a variety of awards, and even with more than seventy years of age behind both of them, their signature sounds are still traversing the globe, leaving a legacy behind for generations to come,” said Glenlivet brand manager Mandla Holomisa. “Hugh Masekela and Larry Willis embody everything we celebrate,” he added.
