Beads used to save the planet

BEAD Coalition has joined hands with the pupils of Grayston Preparatory School to raise awareness and funds for charity and fundraising business, Pledge-A-Portion.

Pupils of the school have helped Bead Coalition to raise funds and awareness by selling beaded bracelets named Earth Force bracelets.

The school’s headmaster Mark Hayter said, “The message behind the bracelets is to encourage children to take care of their environment.” Hayter added that recycling at the school was already the norm so the children were well aware of what was expected of them in terms of looking after the planet. He said, “If we can lead the children then they can lead their parents.”

The pupils have sold 657 bracelets and the school has allowed pupils to wear their Earth Force bracelets to school.

Hayter said it was amazing to witness how a simple thing such as a bracelet could be used towards saving the planet.

“All the proceeds from the bracelets will go to Pledge-A-Portion and a portion of the proceeds will go back to the school,” said Chris Thorpe of AfrikaForce and the Bead Coalition.

The school will use the money they get back from the proceeds to build a solar classroom at their school.

“The Bead Coalition’s vision is that a simple beaded bracelet can make a great difference towards many causes, and people all over the world can wear this symbolic accessory with causal solidarity,” added Thorpe.

Bead Coalition is an organisation that identifies specific causes and creates awareness towards conversational and humanitarian change.

Thorpe said, “Our beaded cause-related bracelet manufacturer supports local employment and uplifts communities throughout South Africa. Our original Rhino Force beaded bracelet which was launched in 2011 remains a South African best-seller.”
