Investing is not just for the wealthy

SANDTON - The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) is actively encouraging ordinary people to invest.

It only takes R300 per month to invest on the stock exchange.

Zeona Jacobs, JSE director of issuer and investor relations said, “It’s simply not as complicated or expensive as people believe. You don’t need pots of money or a degree in finance to invest on the JSE. Anyone can do it.”

People can familiarise themselves with the JSE/Liberty Investment Challenge which is an annual virtual trading competition, which aims to educate school pupils and university students about the workings of the stock market. “Investing on the JSE seems daunting, but once you understand the basics it’s straightforward and can be rewarding,” added Jacobs.

“We’re excited about playing a role in boosting a savings and investment culture. We want to bring the JSE closer to the people and demonstrate that investing is not just for the wealthy.”

She said the JSE also hosted regular investor showcase events at the exchange that were open to the general public.

“The JSE’s website offers a wealth of resources for people looking to learn more about investing,” she added.
