Follow home robberies on-going

SANDTON - Sandton police are one again warning residents about follow-home robberies.

According to spokesperson for the Sandton police, Captain Kym Cloete residents were being followed home from banks after making withdrawals of large amounts of cash.

“They have spotters that stand in the bank and watch for the people withdrawing large amounts of money. They then follow the client out of the bank, and identify the car that the person gets into,” explained Cloete.

The suspect then informs his colleagues who follow the resident to a strategic point, often a driveway, and then robs them.

“The suspects are now wearing balaclava’s, which makes it very difficult to catch them, because they cannot be identified,” said Cloete.

Cloete urged residents to be very aware of their surroundings when in a bank, and to report any suspicious activity to security guards. She also advised that residents made use of electronic payments, rather than drawing wages in cash.
