Coleraine Drive repairs cause water cuts
SANDTON - Repairs on Coleraine Drive have caused water cuts for some residents living in Parkmore, Benmore, Duxberry, Morningside and Riverclub.
This according to Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp who also said the Johannesburg Roads Agency contractors were responsible for damaging the pipe. He said after the damage, the contractors were forced to shut off the water to allow for the pipe to be repaired.
Earp explained, “A large concrete slab was putting pressure on the pipe which had to be removed and re-laid.”
Beverley Hagen of Johannesburg Water confirmed that the pipe was unstable and had to be removed by Johannesburg Water. She said Johannesburg Water was in the process of replacing the pipe and that it would be completed soon.
Earp added, “Residents have the right to be upset because they pay their rates and taxes but there is just not enough being done to ensure that the job is actually being done correctly.”
He said residents have been complaining about the reconstruction of the Coleraine Drive bridge in Riverclub that collapsed in March last year.
“Residents living in the area have been without water for over three days, this is unacceptable,” added Earp.
Ward 91 councillor Andrew Stewart said water cuts have affected a number of suburbs in the Johannesburg North area.
This is a developing story and we will have more information as it becomes available.
