Rivonia girl collects R1 000 for charity
RIVONIA - With smiles of gratitude, the children at Growing Champions got special treats, thanks to a young girl’s extraordinary contribution.
Aimee-Rain Huisamen of Rivonia, donated food to the organisation from money she collected from generous classmates and neighbours.
The 11-year-old pupil from Rivonia Primary School arranged the drive all by herself, and in the end, managed to collect R1 000 which was then used to buy food for the youngsters at Growing Champions.
Clare Huisamen, Aimee’s mother, explained that the idea was borne out of Aimee’s desire to do more for the less fortunate, and help in taking care of them.
“Aimee came to her grandmother and me and expressed her desire to help those who were hungry in any way she could,” Huisamen explained.
Discussions were then held to decide how best to assist them, and who to give the collected food and money to, as the family wanted the contribution to be meaningful and regular.
Huisamen then explained that in the end, the decision was to assist Growing Champions, an organisation focused on empowering children from Eldorado Park.
“Sam, the founder of Growing Champions, is a dear friend of mine and she does a phenomenal job with these children, so we wanted to help her out,” she explained.
Aimee chipped in, adding that she asked classmates to help her and also made posters, which she put around the neighbourhood.
“I was grateful for everyone’s contribution,” she said.
Huisamen concluded that everyone was proud of Aimee and what she was doing for others, a quality she has always had.
“Aimee has always been a compassionate child and has always been sensitive to the needs of others and she continues to make me proud,” Huisamen said.
The collected food was donated to the organisation on 13 August in Eldorado Park.
