Sandton resident impresses at pageant
SANDTON - Resident, Marlene Naiker made it into the top three at the prestigious Mrs India South Africa 2014 pageant.

The Buccleuch resident won the title of second princess at the competition, an impressive feat for a first-time entrant.
According to Naiker, a senior manager at KPMG, she entered the competition after initially trying out for the Mrs South Africa pageant.
“I wanted to enter Mrs SA but after missing the deadline, I opted to enter this one as it’s a similar competition and another opportunity for me,” she said.
She further explained that after entering, she went in for a pre-screening interview, which went well enough for her to secure a place in the final leg of the competition.
Naiker added that she was not as nervous as she thought she would be, as she had prepared well and had the support of her family.
Despite this being the first competition she has entered, Naiker said she had always wanted to enter these kinds of competitions, but something always came up.
“There was a point where I considered the Miss SA pageant but at that point I opted to focus on raising my son instead,” she explained.
Asked about the finals of the competition which took place on Women’s Day, Naiker said it was an amazing experience and one she would cherish forever.
She added that she entered the competition, both as an experience and a desire to win the coveted title.
“I always give my best in everything I do, and that has always been something that has driven me,” she said.
Speaking of future plans, Naiker said she wanted to be an ambassador and get involved with a few charities close to her heart. “It’s important that I commit myself to helping others, as I would like to put the sash I received to some use.”
The Mrs India SA pageant took place at Sibaya’s iZulu theatre and featured 12 finalists from Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
