Parkmore Scouts get a new hall

PARKMORE - The Parkmore Scouts hosted the grand opening of their brand new meeting hall on 23 August.

Chairman of the Parkmore Scouts parents committee, Barry Kalman said the original Scouts hall unfortunately burnt down in October last year and the Scouts had to meet at the Scouts hall on Peter Place Road in Bryanston. The construction for the new hall began in January.

District commissioner of Sandton Scouts, Irene Gaydon said, “The hall was insured so that covered the majority of the rebuilding costs and the remainder was covered through generous donations from parents.”

She added that the new hall was a major improvement with air-conditioning, a climbing wall and rubberised floors.

The event was a fun-filled day with Scouts of all ages participating in a variety of activities such as building ramps and making soda rockets.

Ward councillor of Ward 90 Anthony Still said, “I think this new hall is great and that this group of Scouts, who have been flourishing since 1987, are continuing with their great work with the kids.”

Parkmore Scouts leader Allan Smith gave a speech showing his appreciation for all the support given by parents and the local community. “I’ve been here for 27 years and I think it’s amazing that we have this support with these new facilities,” he said.
