Getting window washers off Grayston Drive
SANDTON - Motorist, Rose Meldrum has suggested a way to permanently remove window washers from Grayston Drive in Sandton.
She said the Metro police have two officers sitting all day in an unmarked police vehicle under the trees on the side of the Old Pretoria Road, close to the M1 South highway watching a portable speed camera.
“Thus, the JMPD [Metro police] can be in one place day and night,” added Meldrum. This, after Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for the Metro police said officers could not be in one place day and night to chase window washers away.
“The Grayston Drive bridge is being patrolled on a daily basis by the JMPD,” added Minnaar. “To stop window washers, motorists needed to stop giving them money and then they will not hang around any more.”
Meldrum believes that if the Metro police can arrange to have an officer sit on the side of the road day and night watching a portable speed camera, they can also have an officer at Grayston Drive to remove window washers that harass motorists.
Meldrum added, “If speed checking is needed on such a basis, a permanent camera should be installed, and the two officers used to provide a proper public service such as keeping window washers and other distracting individuals off the roads at busy junctions such as Grayston Drive and the M1.”

Windows washers are starting to become violent. They have squirted water in my car, on my car. The obstruct my view by leaving washing liquid on the windscreen on purpose. I’ve seen then smack a woman window repeatedly because she didn’t want to pay.
I have started using alternative routes just to avoid the Windows washers on Grayston drive. I dread driving there. They are not providing a service when someone says no, they should move on… not harass or damage peoples property.
My two cents.
