Minibus taxi driver points gun at civilian

SANDTON - The Bramley police received an anonymous tip off that a minibus taxi driver had pointed a gun at a civilian.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said the police managed to find the taxi in Wynberg.

“There were four people in the taxi including the driver and they were asked to step outside [the vehicle],” explained Maphakela.

He said the men were searched and nothing was found on them. “An unlicensed firearm was found under the seat of the taxi driver,” added Maphakela.

“No one knew who the firearm belonged to,” he said. All four suspects were then taken to the Bramley Police Station and questioned.

Maphakela said it was discovered that the firearm belonged to the taxi driver.

The other suspects were released and the taxi driver was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm. He will appear in court soon.
