Franchise leadership summit in Sandton
SANDTON - Industry thought leaders and experts gathered at the annual FNB Franchise leadership summit at The Maslow Hotel in Sandton.

The summit provided a platform to engage and discuss key trends in the franchise industry which has become an effective contributor to the economic growth and development in South Africa.
Connie Mashaba, the managing director of Black Like Me took to the stage and spoke about how she and husband, Herman built their black hair product manufacturing empire.
“At the time of our business idea, there were no more than three manufacturing products available for black people’s hair and we saw a business opportunity,” explained Mashaba.
Some of the challenges she and her husband faced was the lack of financial assistance available at that time for black businesses. “Apartheid played a big part in the slow progress of our climb,” she added. “We wanted black people to know that they too could be successful.”
Mashaba said a number of qualities were required to be successful in business. “Passion is very key and making sure people’s interests are close to heart,” she said.
This year’s summit saw key speakers concentrating on Africa, global expansion as well as how the franchise world is constantly changing.
Panel discussions also took place in which established businessmen and women pondered on new market traits, innovative opportunities and small business development.
