Walking dead for charity

BRYANSTON- PWC Cycle Park in Bryanston was abuzz with zombies and apocalyptic fever as the cycle park held their annual Zombie Run on 25 October .

‘Mortals’ fought for their lives against ‘zombies’ lurking around corners of the course. Headed up by Carol Willis, the run has been a fixed event for the cycle park for the past five years.

All proceeds raised through entry costs went to the Freeme Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Paulshof. The centre cares for wildlife such as owls and indigenous bird life.

Young, old, men and women came out in the bloodiest, scariest outfits they could think of to participate in the charity run. The run was designed through a serious of obstacles, where the participants were required to dodge lurking zombies.

“Each runner has a red tag attached to them,” said Willis. “It is up to them to protect this tag from zombies, as this represents their life and their entry ticket to the raffle.” Willis and her team aimed to raise R25 000 on the day.

A dress-up competition was also held and the best-dressed zombies were awarded prizes.

Willis wants to share this apocalyptic experience and hold it at other venues around the country, all in the name of charity. A special ceremony will be held to announce how much money the event managed to raise.
