Woman dragged under a car is a Sandown teacher

SANDTON - The woman dragged under a car in Sandton has been identified as an employee at Sandown High School.

According to Netwerk24, the victim was identified as Suzanne Leyden and she is a teacher at the high school.

Leyden, 36, was dragged under a car at the William Nicol and Sandton Drive intersection this morning at 7am and sustained multiple injuries to her head and chest. She was taken to Milpark Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, confirmed that Leyden was dragged for approximately 10 metres behind the vehicle.

“She sustained several injuries, including a fractured skull, trauma to the chest and abrasions all over her body,” he said.

Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for Metro police, said that a case was opened against the driver of a Toyota Hilux.

“A case of reckless and negligent driving was opened and the matter has been referred to the police for further investigation,” he said.

Minnaar also requested any witnesses who saw the driver’s license plate to contact JMPD on 082 559 3882.
