Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police, said the man was followed by a silver Honda Ballade through the security boom gates on his way to his residential place on 4th Avenue.
“Before he could even open his gate, three men in balaclavas emerged from the Honda and pointed their guns at him,” explained Maphakela. He added that the security personnel on duty were also threatened with a firearm.
The man was instructed to open his gate. “One of the suspects remained inside the car, another searched the man and the third suspect entered the house,” said Maphakela.
The suspects ran off with a Rolex watch, a Lenovo laptop, R1 000 in cash and an iPhone 6. Maphakela said the man could not give a description of the suspects as they covered their faces with balaclavas and no one saw the number plate of the Honda.
Maphakela believes that this incident is part of the recent follow-home robbery hike in the Sandton area. “We are appealing to the community to be alert and be conscious of who is following them in their car,” he said. “If you suspect that you are being followed, do not stop or go to your house. Drive to the nearest police station or contact the police.”
