Bryanston Church responds to tragic deaths
BRYANSTON - Following the tragic deaths of Werner, Rode and Jean-Pierre Groenewald, who were killed after an attack by the Taliban in Afghanistan on 29 October, the Bryanston Methodist Church gave their response to the devastating news.

Reverend Dalene Jordaan of the Bryanston Methodist church said, “We are deeply saddened by this loss. Our prayers are with the family here in South Africa and Hannelie Groenewald at this moment.”
The church supported the Groenewald family who were based in Kabul, Afghanistan, and gave educational and medical support to the local residents. Jordaan said they were involved in educational work, and Hannalie, who is a medical doctor working at a hospital at the time of the attack, was providing medical assistance.
According to reports, Taliban member Zabiullah Mujahid said the targeted compound was a secret Christian missionary centre but it was reported that the family were not working as missionaries.
Reverend Jordaan said the Bryanston Methodist Church will wait to hear what Hannalie Groenewald’s wishes are and will give her support as best they can.
