More load shedding underway today
JOBURG - The country’s load shedding woes are set to continue today as more forced power outages are expected.
The power utility is currently load shedding in stage two; however, there is no indication as to how long the power outages will be implemented.
Several parts of the country were plunged into darkness for the third consecutive weekend after Eskom declared stage three load shedding on 5 December.
In the early hours of this morning, Eskom announced that it had terminated load shedding for the day and that electricity would be available to all areas.
However, it later announced that stage one load shedding would be implemented after units, which were taken offline at the weekend, had not returned to service.
The power utility then escalated load shedding from stage one to stage two due to “a further deterioration of plant availability”.
Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona is today expected to issue an official update on the state of the power system.
Eskom’s load shedding schedules can be viewed on the utility’s website (loadshedding.eskom.co.za) and updates on the electricity supply and load shedding are available by following Eskom on twitter @Eskom_SA.
