Survey reflects residents’ concerns
SANDTON - Ward 102 councillor, David Potter has issued a report on public perception to service delivery in the City of Johannesburg, based on survey responses.

To better understand residents’ concerns and their issues around service delivery in their respective communities, an online survey was created. Potter said a total of 345 responses were received from the public.
The survey, according to Potter, indicated that the level of service delivery satisfaction was low. “Potholes seem to be the biggest concern, with damaged roads, faulty street lights, illegal land use and weeds growing on pavements are all issues,” he explained.
He added that there was a great dissatisfaction with the call centre of the City. “This was the case a year ago when a similar survey was done relating to the City Power and Joburg Water technical call centres,” he added.
Potter also said it was clear that there are serious short, medium and long-term concerns surrounding service delivery and the state of the City of Johannesburg, with little leadership to indicate that change is happening.
“Issues are not being resolved in good time or without a fuss,” explained Potter. “Whilst it would be good to single out certain entities and their failures, it is sad to say that most of the entities are not performing as they should or in comparison to how they have performed in the past.”
He went on to say that many entities in the City have an aging staff complement, as well as staff that pass on or retire. Potter explained that the City was essentially failing to replace those staff members, with management having to do the same if not more work tasks with less staff. “Management in the entities are equally frustrated as are councillors and customers,” he said.
Potter also said, “It is my hope as a ward councillor for staff to be motivated to want to work, for the City to function, for the mayor to be contactable, to be responsive and for the City to deliver basic services without a fight or a fuss.” He believes that with everyone’s efforts his ideal is possible.
