Sandown’s High’s academic superstar

SANDTON - Top achiever and head girl of Sandown High School, Gracious Nyoni made her family and school proud on 6 January after obtaining five distinctions in the National Senior Certificate examinations.

Born in Zimbabwe, the family moved to South Africa in 2008 where she attended Robin Hills Primary School in Randburg. She started her illustrious high school career at Sandown High School in 2010 where she developed a keen interest in mathematics and reading.

Nyoni said, “Throughout my high school career I have had the honour of being top of my grade since Grade 8.”

Her distinctions were in English home language, mathematics, life orientation, life sciences and physical sciences. She unfortunately missed out on distinctions for geography and Afrikaans first additional language by one percent.

“I am extremely happy with the marks I got because they will help me get into the university course I want to enter. So I’m very excited for what the future holds.”

She added that she felt that all her hard work had paid off and was completely elated that she would have the opportunity to start a new and exciting chapter in her life.

Her father Themba said he was very pleased with his daughter’s results, while spokesperson for Sandown High School Adele Nell said, “I wish her all the best for the future. She is a real go-getter and will achieve great things.”

Gracious said her future plans involved studying actuarial sciences at the University of Pretoria this year.
