Potholes on Ballyclare cause headache
BRYANSTON - The Johannesburg Roads Agency has urged motorists to exercise care and patience when travelling. This after two dangerous potholes were recently discovered on Ballyclare Drive.
Bertha Peters-Scheepers, operations manager marketing and communications, explained the potholes were a result of the wet weather conditions over the past few weeks.
“Potholes expand quicker when it rains, and repairs are significantly compromised if carried out when roads are not dry,” she said.
She also explained that the potholes on Ballyclare expanded with the rain.
She added that the Agency was currently busy with temporary cold patching of the potholes to ensure the road was safe for driving and that permanent asphalt material would be used as the weather improved.
“The Agency is on 24-hour standby attending to crisis hotspots as reported, in addition to securing potholes, clearing storm water drains and repairing traffic lights,” she said.
Additionally, Peters-Scheepers stressed that the agency would ensure the risk to motorists using such roads would be minimised as repairs were carried out.
She also cautioned motorists to avoid low-lying bridges, due to the number of bridges being flooded, as cars and people could easily be swept away during storms and floods.
