e-learning launches at Sandton Library

SANDTON - The Sandton Library and the City of Johannesburg did their part in digitising the learning process with addition of a fully-functional e-learning centre which was unveiled on 27 March.

The event was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg, Parks Tau. The morning showcased the technological advancements made in education, and the City of Johannesburg’s need to spread the access to information.

The event added to the City’s rolling out of eWorld, a programme which will see free internet access at public libraries which will run over the next 18 months.

Christabel Zulu of Buz Publicity said, “The City of Johannesburg has made a solid commitment to e-learning. This is reflected in the Smart City’s Smart Citizen priority through the Library and Information Services e-learning programme.”

Member of the Mayoral Committee in charge of corporate and shared services councillor Mally Mokoena said the addition of the e-learning centre aligns with the City’s aim of using technology to support community improvement while uplifting all levels of learning.

Tau gave the keynote address with excitement towards the new project which he described as launching at a time where Africa is ready to leapfrog on an economic level.

The guests were then given an exclusive tour through the state-of-the-art e-learning centre installed at the entrance of Sandton Library.
