This according to Mary-Jane Modida, the daughter of the victim, who said her father, Andries, was viciously attacked by a group of eight residents living in her community. “We received a call from the police at about 9pm at night saying that we should come to the scene where he was found beaten,” explained Modida.
She said her father had sustained injuries all over his face and that parts of his body were injured as well. “He was in hospital and was severely bruised,” added Modida. “He can’t even walk properly right now.”
Modida explained that the police said there was an alleged attempted car hijacking and her father happened to pass by the area where the incident had occurred. She said he was then attacked by the residents of that area because they suspected he was the suspect implicated in the attempted hijacking. “He is a 63-year-old man, he was taking a walk,” said Modida. “He doesn’t even look like someone who can hurt anyone.”
She said the victim of the attempted car hijacking was asked whether Andries was the culprit and he responded with a no.
She also said her father was still hurt and is in no condition to go open a criminal case or to give police a statement. However, she and her family have been in contact with the police about the alleged assault incident.
“No real action that we know of has taken place, we don’t even have a case number from the police,” added Modida.
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, the spokesperson for Bramley police, said an investigation regarding the case is pending.
This is a developing story and more information will be published as it becomes available.
