SANDTON - Another food scandal has hit South Africa, this time at a Sandton eatery.

UPDATE: 6 June 2015, 3pm – Doppio Zero South Africa Head Office have released a statement on their Facebook Page regarding the incident. It can only be found in the comments of the complaint which is under ‘posts to page’

It stated that Doppio Zero are taking the complaint extremely seriously. “We ensure hygiene and food safety are our top priority and have our restaurants inspected bi-weekly by pest control. We would like to assure the public that this is not a kitchen issue at all.”

Director of Operations at Doppio Zero’s head office, Ivan Walsh said, “The incident has been bought to our attention and was addressed while the customer was still there and we have apologised to her. Her post was not removed from our Facebook page. Customer posts do not appear on the main page, they fall under the ‘Post to Pages’ tab.”

He went on to say that the beetles were not cockroaches, but are a garden variety beetle that is unfortunately found in the plants which are located outside the restaurant. “The insects are not kitchen or hygiene related. We are actively working to eradicate them.”
