Bischof-Niemz to speak at Green Drinks

WENDYWOOD - The African Climate Reality Project (ACRP) and Food & Trees for Africa will host the Road to Paris Green Drinks event on 20 August and are proud to host Dr Tobias Bischof-Niemz.

Bischof-Niemz, who is the manager of the Energy Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in Pretoria, will discuss the costs and benefits of renewable energy. He will interact and converse with all in attendance who see the urgency in grappling with key energy challenges in South Africa.

The event will be held at Food & Trees for Africa on 20 August and is an initiative by the African Climate Reality Project as a way of introducing and educating large stakeholders about the benefits and future of renewable energy in South Africa.

The Road to Paris Campaign calls for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030.

Manager at the African Climate Reality Project, Jeunesse Park said, “The continued pursuit of non-renewable energy results in excessive water use, the pollution of air and water, and exacerbates climate change. In addition, the negative impact of extreme weather on South Africa’s crop production is yet another reason to access sustainable sources of clean energy.”

Bischof-Niemz has great ideas regarding South Africa’s place in the world of renewable energy and said, “Thanks to its world-class wind and solar resources, South Africa is one of the first countries where renewables are cost competitive… That means South Africa can be a global leader in designing and operating cost-competitive renewables-based power systems.”
