Post office mail back on track

JOBURG - The South African Post Office (Sapo) has announced that the mail delivery delays have been resolved and that full conveyancing capacity was restored as from 15 August.

This follows the cautionary announcement last week by Sapo management that its customers should expect sporadic delays in mail delivery in some areas due to fleet management operational challenges which impacted mail in transit in some parts of the country.

Sapo acting group CEO Mlu Mathonsi assured customers that post office operations are fully running following the resolution of the fleet management operational glitch which caused delays.

Mathonsi said, “Our branches and all points of service in our operations have been informed of this development and restoration of full services to our customers. We thank our customers for their understanding while we were dealing with the situation and express our regret for any unnecessary alarm that the situation may have caused.”

He said the main cause for its fleet management challenges was based on the contractual arrangement with its current fuel cards services provider. Mathonsi said it was not due to a payment dispute as reported in some media reports.

The entity also revealed that the appointment of the non-executive directors on 13 August put the post office on a solid path towards full implementation of the newly-launched corporate strategy.

Mathonsi said, “And the appointment of Simo Lushaba to lead the board provides much-needed continuity. It also unequivocally indicates that the cabinet takes the sustainability of the post office seriously.”
