Metro police get new patrol car

SANDTON - The Sandton Central Management District hosted a very special handover of a brand-new patrol car to the Metro police on the morning of 27 August.

The vehicle will be used exclusively for Sandton Central and will be manned by two Metro police officers from 9am to 6pm during the week to uphold the bustling area’s bylaws. The vehicle will also be involved in night patrols which will run from Thursday to Sunday from 10pm to 4am.

City Improvement District manager for Sandton Central Management District, Elaine Jack said, “Sandton Central strives to offer a well-managed, orderly space. As our public space belongs to the City, our partnership with the City is essential when it comes to ensuring its bylaws are upheld. Our partnership benefits both the City and the many people who love, work and visit Sandton Central each day.”

She added that bylaw infringement had been handled on a call-out basis, but the vehicle will allow a dedicated vehicle for the area to monitor crime and various violations at all times.

The handover was attended by a variety of stakeholders and members of Metro police. Deputy director of Metro police, Enock Sibiya, said the partnership with Sandton Central is a much-needed way for the Metro police to grow closer to the Sandton community and its residents.

Sandton Central Management District representative, Scott Thorburn, said the event marks the start of a number of partnerships with the City of Johannesburg.

Thorburn added that the district will work hard to create and grow more partnerships.
