Police confirm armed robbery in Sandton

SANDTON - Following a report of an armed robbery which took place on West Street in Sandton on 24 August, provincial spokesperson for Sandton police, Tsekiso Mofokeng, confirmed that a case of armed robbery had been opened.

Mofokeng said at about 7.45pm, two victims were allegedly approached by two suspects who robbed them of a number of personal items and then sped away on a motorbike. There were no details available of what items were stolen.

Following an initial tweet of the incident by founder of LeadSA, Yusuf Abramjee, which claimed that the robbery took place outside the Michaelangelo Hotel, Mofokeng confirmed that the victims only went to the hotel after the robbery for assistance.

General manager of Michelangelo Hotel, Roberto Rosa said, “It wasn’t anything too dramatic from our side. The victims were robbed on West Street and came through to Nelson Mandela Square. They saw our security who helped them to contact the police after the incident.”

Mofokeng added that none of the victims was injured during the incident and police were investigating the case as the suspects were still at large.

Details: 08600 10111.
