Attempted robbery at jewellery shop in Woodmead

WOODMEAD – An attempted robbery at a jewellery shop in Woodmead was halted after the alarm from a panic button caused the suspects to scatter.

This according to Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk from Sandton police who also said six male suspects were involved. “Two were armed with firearms and pointed their weapons at the cashier and told her to keep quiet,” said De Klerk. It is unknown what the other four suspects were doing during the robbery.

He said someone at the store pressed the panic button and the suspects ran out of the store. De Klerk added that eyewitnesses said the suspects were driving a silver Audi A6 and drove towards the M1. He said the registration number of the vehicle the suspects were travelling in is DT69VRGP.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact De Klerk.
