Engineer finds employment at Vodacom
MIDRAND - Electrical engineer graduate, Tankiso Motaung, has landed a six-month internship at Vodacom's headquarters in Midrand.

Motaung’s employment came after he was spotted standing on the busy Grayston Drive corner in Sandton with a placard begging for a job, not knowing that his action would set social media ablaze.
He joined the mobile communications company on 1 September as a graduate intern in the Solutions Management Enterprise Business Unit, with the possibility of becoming a permanent employee.
His journey started when motorist, Ashley Ball, took a photo of Tankiso holding a placard that read: ‘I have B-Tech in electrical engineering. Please help’, and posted it on Facebook.
The picture went viral and a flood of messages started landing in Ball’s inbox with some asking for Motaung’s CV, and others applauding the inspiration he gave other job seekers.
Elegance Gozo, manager of Emerging Talent at Vodacom came across his story and decided to give him an interview opportunity which led to the company taking a decision to recruit him.
Gozo said, “We offer opportunities for young graduates like Motaung to gain work experience that will help them in securing gainful employment.”
Group CEO of human resource management, Matimba Mbugela said, “We are always looking for future leaders for the business. Graduates who have ambition, drive and innovative ideas to help shape their world and take their careers to the next level.”
As for Motaung, he is enjoying his time at his new job. He said, “I am very happy and grateful to have received an opportunity like this. I have been praying that I get at least one chance to prove myself. My only concern now is to focus on my work and to do my best to maximise this opportunity.”
