Their exceptional achievement comes after participating in the annual inter-high school dance competition, which was held in the new multi-million rand MADDitorium theatre at St Peter’s College in September.
Both pupils then went on to represent St Peter’s College at the Johannesburg DanceStar qualifiers.
Izak Botha, head of dance and movement studies at St Peter’s College said, “If you can move you can dance.”
Botha added that Knight and Van Wyk spent many hours practising in the school dance studio with their choreographer Kim Rose-Mathew of Squeak-A-Takkie Productions. “They are both looking forward to this unbelievable opportunity and can’t stop smiling when they think about it,” said Botha.
“Being part of the South African team is a lifetime opportunity. This is a really exceptional achievement that only a few will achieve.”
The girls will travel to Croatia in May next year to compete with dancers from around the world.
This will give them an opportunity to broaden their dance vocabulary through attending workshops and learn cutting edge techniques, said Botha. They will also learn about choreography taught by international choreographers while experiencing different cultures and traditions.
