UPDATE: House on fire in Sandhurst while Sandton’s water supply runs low

SANDHURST - Twitter was abuzz on the evening of 12 November with community members reporting a house was on fire in Sandhurst.

Update: 8pm on 12 November:

City of Joburg Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe confirmed that a house on Montrose Street in Sandhurst was on fire on the evening of 12 November but could not confirm that a car had been burnt in the blaze.

At 8pm she said emergency services were still on the scene to ensure that the fire did not reignite.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

7pm on 12 November:

The community members tweeted that emergency services were on scene and that there were no injuries.

Sandton Chronicle is contacting the emergency services and will update when more information comes to light.

It was reported on social media that the flames could be seen from William Nicol Drive and motorists were slowing down to view the fire which was slowing down traffic.

At the same time, the City of Joburg reported that the water supply in the Illovo Water Tower was running low due to high consumption and parts of Sandton, including Sandhurst were affected.
