First day at big school for Grade 1 Buccleuch Primary School pupils

BUCCLEUCH - Buccleuch Primary School welcomed its new Grade 1 pupils to the school on the morning of 13 January.

Excitement was in the air, and chatter and laughter filled the corridors as pupils were thrilled to be back at school with their friends.

There was also tons of delight from the new group of Grade 1 pupils who were excited to kick off their academic careers.

However, as much as there was excitement, there were some tears from the children and the parents.

“We sometimes have the ones who cry on the first day,” said Grade 1 D teacher Marile Mare as she tried to console Amanda Ginyizembe, one of her new pupils who was overwhelmed by the big day.

Another pupil, Sibahle Tlaka had his guardian in tears when he was dropped off at his new class. Anakha Mathew had both of her parents there to bid her farewell. “She’s fine, she has an older sibling at the school who is in Grade 7,” explained Mathew’s father, Zachariah.

Mare was excited to welcome the new pupils to her class. She welcomed each and every one of them as their parents brought them in and showed them to their desks.

Parents also took the opportunity to document their children’s first day at school by taking photos and videos.
