Bridge collapse enquiry commences
SANDTON - On 16 February, the Department of Labour began at the enquiry into the collapse of the support structure of the Grayston Drive Bridge over the M1 on 14 October.

According to reports, the enquiry was held at the Parktonian Hotel in Braamfontein with construction company Murray & Roberts, materials supplier form-scaff, and engineering firm Royal Haskoning DHV being given the opportunity to explain their contribution to the project.
The clean-up of the scaffolding has been completed, but the final investigative report surrounding the cause of the collapse has not been brought forward. According to reports, presiding officer at the enquiry, Lennie Samuel, said the report must be submitted by the end of business on 24 March.
The initial incident occurred at 3.30pm on 14 October when a scaffolding bridge that ran over the M1 highway along Grayston Drive suddenly collapsed. Two drivers were killed and 19 injured.
According to reports, construction company Murray & Roberts has initiated their own investigation while the City of Johannesburg, The Department of Labour and the police have also begun their own.
