Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, explained that the complainant was alerted to the housebreaking by his employee.
“The housekeeper informed the complainant that there had been a break-in at the house and upon arrival, he discovered that valuables, including a laptop and jewellery, had been stolen,” Maphakela said.
Sandton police were then informed of the incident and upon arrival, took fingerprints from the scene for further investigation. Maphakela explained that once the fingerprint identification was completed, the officers were then able to identify the suspect and his place of residence.
“Our investigation led the police to the suspect’s house, which turned out to be a fake address, but eventually, he was apprehended at a friend’s house in Alexandra,” he said.
Maphakela confirmed that the suspect was arrested, detained at Sandton Police Station and charged with housebreaking and theft.
He has since appeared in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court twice, however the case continues.
