Man arrested for allegedly stealing from relative in Buccleuch

BUCCLEUCH – A man accused of breaking into his relative's house and stealing valuables worth R80 000 was recently arrested by Sandton police.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for Sandton Police Station, a while after the complainant had left his complex in Buccleuch to visit someone, he received a call from the complex security informing him that there was someone in his house.

“When the complainant arrived with police officers, he found there was no one in the house. But upon investigation, discovered that his sitting room window had been forced open,” Maphakela said.

The victim also discovered that valuables had been stolen, including a tablet, a handbag, two watches and jewellery. Maphakela confirmed that the relative was apprehended following a description from a neighbour who had allegedly seen him.

“It was following this description that the complainant was able to identify the suspect as his relative and he was arrested,” he said.

Maphakela confirmed that the stolen items were recovered from the man before he was taken to Sandton Police Station, where he was charged with housebreaking and theft.

The accused has since appeared in Alexandra Magistrates’ Court where the case was postponed to 10 March.
