The staff members of law firm Hogan Lovells showed their appreciation for the environment by participating in Earth Day on 22 April.
Employees took to George Lea South Park, an area beset with litter and illegal dumping, to clean up the green lung.
CEO of the firm, May Elaine Thomson, said the company, which has a ‘green’ office in Sandton, attempted to do a lot of small things during the ordinary work day to benefit the environment.
“We have an environmental team worldwide, with two members from each office, where we discuss and share what we can all do for the environment,” she said.
She added that the park clean-up was a way to show how small things such as picking up litter could make a big difference. The firm’s involvement in Earth Day was also in line with various initiatives they took part in including tree-planting and environmental education.
“We really work hard on our culture and having a warm environment in our office,” she said.
“We usually have a budget for Valentine’s Day for small presents for our staff, but this year, we have decided we will allocate that budget to collecting water during the recent drought.”
She said she hoped that more companies would get involved in protecting the environment.
