River raid sees an arrest

SANDTON - Private security and police conducted a sweep operation in the Sandton greenbelt, arresting one suspect and recovering weapons from vagrants.

A large team of 7Arrows Security tactical officers, along with a K9 unit, conducted a major river operation in Sandton on 29 September.

Initiated by increased criminal traffic in the greenbelt areas, 7Arrows Security set about the river operation to address the threat to residents and homes surrounding the river created by criminals accessing the area.

The raid took several hours and ended in the early hours of 30 September. It was said to be a huge success and led to a number of vagrants being chased out of the area. One suspect was handed over to the police after suspects shot at officers during the operation.

Members of the 7Arrows Security, Washa team, took off on foot at 9pm on 29 September, beginning along the river at Katherine Drive and set about an intense search of the river and surrounds, eventually ending in Witkoppen at 4am. During the operation, 7Arrows officers encountered a number of individuals along the river. All persons were investigated and, in one instance, a weapon was discovered.

“Our aim is to send out a strong message to any criminals in these areas, letting them know that our officers are vigilant and have a heavy presence in these communities,” said Jason Mordecai, 7Arrows security chief operating officer.

“Our team operates inside our patrolled areas, focusing on ensuring that the offenders in each region are tracked and brought to justice.”

At around 3am officers encountered three suspects who fled. One of them fired at the officers, which resulted in a chase down the river with one suspect being apprehended and the other two chased out of the area. The suspect was handed over to the Sandton police.

“We urge residents living along these areas to be aware that greenbelt areas, unfortunately, see an increased number of crimes. In order to prevent such lawbreaking, residents need to put up more perimeter lighting around their homes and make sure properties are effectively protected from outside threats,” said Mordecai

The 7Arrows Security team will continue its work in these areas with the main goal of ensuring residents’ safety. “We have set out to maintain our presence along greenbelt areas on a regular basis and, therefore, any returning criminals will be sent on their way,” said Mordecai.
