Puppy survives crash
SANDTON – After a car accident in Linbro Park, an unexpected victim was rescued by paramedics.

Emer-G-Med responded to a car accident in Linbro Park on 8 October and found an unexpected little victim, a seven-week-old puppy, and although this little fighter sustained injuries, he is currently doing well.

Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Max Cohen said that on 9 October, a serious collision occurred on the corner of Clulee Road and New London Road in Linbro Park. It is believed that a bakkie skipped a red traffic light, collided with a bus and left three people with moderate injuries. The patients were treated on the scene before being transported to a nearby hospitals for further care.
“While attending to the injured, M07’s crew were informed by a bystander that a seven-week-old puppy had also been injured in the collision and was found lying in the footwell of the bakkie.”

He explained that the little puppy appeared to be in a serious condition and was rushed to The Avenues Veterinary Clinic in Edenvale for assistance. On the way to the vet, the crew placed the puppy in a lateral position and provided the animal with supplemental oxygen.
At the vet, it was revealed that the puppy had sustained facial fractures and a concussion among other, less serious injuries.
“Emer-G-Med would like to thank the two anonymous women on the scene, who very graciously offered to pay the vet bills for the injured pup.”

Dr Ian Southern, the vet who cared for the puppy said, “The puppy is doing well and was discharged two days ago [12 October] and is currently in a foster home. He had a lot of bruises and muscle stiffness and general body pain but is doing very well now.”
The vet confirmed that the puppy was approximately seven weeks old and although it is hard to confirm the breed, he thinks it is a mix breed or perhaps a medium-sized Staffordshire bull terrier.
