Marine engine launched by Sandton company
SANDTON – Cummins, with offices in Woodlands, Sandton, have put South Africa on the marine world map.
Cummins, a technological and engineering company with its Joburg offices in Woodlands, has launched a marine engine in Cape Town.

Andy Pilkington, the segment director for Marine Oil and Gas Business Africa said, “The innovative QSK95 engine [marine engine] allows us to meet our marine customers’ increasing power requirements, while the engine’s vast capabilities ensure we can successfully enter into new markets within Africa.”
It was further highlighted that the technologically advanced engine, which puts South Africa on the map, is designed to exceed the performance of comparable engines.

The marine engine provides a solution for hardworking marine vessels such as tugs, both inshore and offshore patrol vessels, emergency search and rescue vessels, commercial fishing boats, passenger ferries, super yachts, offshore support vessels and crew boats.
In light of global environmental challenges, there is an increasing emphasis on going green. “The QSK95 [marine engine] engine was engineered for environmental stewardship, meeting green passport requirements for zero disposal impact.”
The engine will allow Cummins to serve higher power nodes in the marine industry, as well as the rail, mining and power generation industries. “It is our intention to support all our current and prospective customers in the various market segments with a range of products to suit their needs,” concluded Pilkington.
