The Sandton Chronicle has been reporting on a giant pothole in Parkmore on the corner of Mattie Avenue and 13th Street.
It was reported in the article, From bad to worse, Week ending 4 November, that the Parkmore community felt let down by Johannesburg Roads Agency, as the massive pothole appears to be getting even bigger and 13th Street has been closed off.
Kate Wardle, deputy chairperson of the Parkmore Community Association, and Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp have previously stated that they are concerned about the safety implications of this giant hole, particularly for residents who are driving late at night and other times when there is poor visibility. Furthermore, the Parkmore area has numerous road closures and the closure of 13th Street has further inconvenienced residents.
In light of this, the road agency’s spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers explained on 2 November that, “The [entity’s] team is currently busy completing the subsoil pipe drainage at 13th [and] Mattie in Parkmore. The road will be backfilled and compacted and retarred by end of business on Friday 4 November. “Unfortunately, the process was delayed due to three leaking water drains which have been repaired by [Johannesburg] Water.”
It appears that this issue is days away from being resolved and the Sandton Chronicle will update residents on any progress.
