CPF says Sandton is in good hands

SANDTON - Members of the Sandton Community Policing Forum (CPF) and police met with residents at the Johannesburg Country Club in Woodmead.

Members of the Sandton Community Policing Forum (CPF) and police met with residents at the Johannesburg Country Club in Woodmead to present and discuss the latest crime statistics that were released by police in September.

Residents were also introduced to the newly appointed Sandton Police Station Commander Brigadier Egen Moodley and Sandton’s new cluster commander, Major General NN Sithole.

The newly appointed cluster commander assured residents that the police were making a concerted effort to reduce violent crime in Sandton. “Sandton is a very important precinct and we are hoping that with the help of the community, private security and local businesses, we can fight the scourge of crime affecting Sandton today,” said Sithole.

Moodley thanked members of the forum and residents for their vote of confidence. “Sandton police management would like to show a greater commitment to the people of Sandton. I am here to work with you, not against you, and welcome all input from the public,” said Moodley.

Sandton CPF chairman Anthony Modena presented the organisation’s plans for addressing crime-related issues in the area.

Modena stated that the forum had three main strategic guidelines. The first was improving the social economy. This strategy will focus on developing the economy of Sandton and including the wider community to benefit from economic growth.

The second was good neighbourliness. This strategy will focus on building relationships with Alexandra and other areas surrounding Sandton, with the end goal of building stronger communities.

The final strategic guideline will focus on facilitating and building a new case for change around the security issues in Sandton. “Initiatives flowing from this will include working closer with the chief executives of security companies,” said Modena.
